Job Description On behalf of our client, a highly respected farm and ranch products and services provider celebrating 80 years in business this year, we are seeking talented and seasoned candidates for the position of Controller for its corporate offices headquartered in the Salinas Valley, Monterey County, California. This position reports directly to the General Manager and will work collaboratively with him on an ongoing basis. Excellent opportunity to assume Controller role (average tenure is 15 years) with a fast track to CFO (in one to two years).

Summary: Self-directed and experienced Controller will oversee all financial and accounting activities. The successful candidate will be responsible for budget management, financial analysis and reporting, payroll, forecasting and strategy, and leading and directing accounts payable, accounts receivable. Key areas within the human resources department will also be managed by the Controller, including policy and procedure compliance and ongoing maintenance of HR practices. Essential responsibilities to include but are not limited to the following:

-Provide financial leadership
-Direct and plan preparation of reports
-Summarize business activities and financial positions in areas of income, expenses, and earnings based on past, present and expected operations.
-Oversee and regulate corporate funds and accounts.
-Establish budgets, approve expenditures, and provide guidance to ensure financial solvency.

Other duties and responsibilities are as follows:

-Guide financial decisions by establishing, monitoring and enforcing policies and procedures.
-Protect assets by establishing, monitoring, and enforcing internal controls.
-Monitor and confirm financial condition by conducting audits; providing information to external auditors.
-Consolidate financial data by collecting, analyzing, and summarizing financial information and trends.
-Oversee accounts receivable, accounts payable, general ledger, and payroll operations.
-Provide timely status of financial position to the Board of Directors through monthly profit and loss statements and balance sheet.
-Comply with federal, state, and local legal requirements by studying existing and new legislation and enforcing adherence to requirements and advising management of needed actions. Maintains Company records to comply with these laws.
-Coordinate with Division Managers to evaluate divisional performance and offer suggestions for improvement.
-Coordinate with Office Manager to select, orient, and train staff.
-Protect operations by keeping financial information and plans confidential.
-Maintain professional and technical knowledge through various means of education.
-Contribute to team effort by accomplishing related results as needed.
Candidate Requirements Ideal candidate will have the experience and ability to successfully perform the above-listed responsibilities as well as possess the following:

* Bachelor's Degree in Accounting, Finance, or related subject. MBA a plus. CPA highly desirable.
* Proven history in an accounting management role demonstrating leadership, mentorship and commitment
* Strong analytical and accounting skills with hands on experience in both GL Accounting and FP&A.
* Expert knowledge of generally accepted accounting principles (GAAP)
